FAQs

•    Can adults wear braces?
Of course! There is no age limit to when a brace can be placed and many adults can transform their smile by use of simple cosmetic braces.

•    Why a specialist consultant orthodontist?
A ‘Specialist Orthodontist’ must undertake three years of extra full-time training and study including examinations recognised by the GDC (General dental council).
In addition to Specialist Orthodontist status, both Dr. Waring and Dr. Malik have undergone three further years of training – in treating the most difficult orthodontic cases – to become hospital Consultants. They adhere to the GDC rules governing the profession.

•    Do they hurt?
No. After the fitting of the brace there maybe mild tenderness for about 2 days.  Routine painkillers can help this. Most problems subside within 48 hours

•    How long does it take?
Treatment usually takes between 12 and 24 months but will vary according to how difficult the case is. Failure to attend appointments or repeated breakages will lengthen treatment time.

•    Can I have invisible braces
Yes, invisible braces are now widely used and produce great results. The invisible braces include Invisalign, ceramic (clear) brackets and lingual brackets (on the inside of your teeth)

•    Will I have to wait for treatment to start
No. treatment can start as soon as you wish.

•    What are retainers
After completion of your orthodontic treatment retainers are used to hold the teeth in the correct position. Retainers are usually ‘fixed’ which involved a small wire glued behind your teeth. This is invisible.
