Invisalign

If you’re anxious about the gaps in between your teeth, then there are brace treatments available to fix them. It is easy to tell if your teeth are too spaced apart as the gaps will be noticeable. The most common gap we see is the gap between the top front teeth. In today’s blog, we are going to discuss whether Invisalign can give you the straight smile you’ve always wanted. So, what causes gaps to form between my teeth?

Jaw and tooth development

Your teeth are always moving, so it is not uncommon for small gaps to appear. The formation of gaps in between your teeth is known as diastema, a condition that is seen in both adults and children. The gaps can be caused when your teeth are too small for your jawbone or can be caused by an overgrowth of gum tissue.

Bad Habits

Sometimes the cause of spaced teeth is something as simple as sucking on your thumb as a child. The pressure from sucking on your thumb moves your teeth forward and creates these gaps. Also, if you swallow and push your tongue against your teeth, they will again be put under pressure.

Can Invisalign help?

Invisalign are clear removable aligner trays that are designed to slowly, tray-by-tray, straighten your teeth to achieve the perfect smile. Each tray is made so that it is slightly tighter than the previous one. This forces your teeth to move to fit it and gradually straightens crooked, overlapping and of course gappy teeth.

What are my other options?

If Invisalign isn’t for you, then not to worry there are many brace treatments out there to suit all patients. These include traditional metal braces and hidden ceramic braces, which are placed on the front of your teeth using pressure to straighten your smile. There’s also Lingual braces which are placed on the backs of your teeth but work in the same way as traditional braces.
