It's Time to Smile as World Smile Day approaches 0

There isn't a person on this planet who wouldn't recognise a smiley face. It might feel that life didn't exist before this iconic image but in fact the smiley was only invented in 1963. Its inventor, Harvey Ball intended it to be a symbol of good cheer and goodwill and for that reason created a special day in October to celebrate acts of kindness and happiness. So with World Smile Day taking place on October 7th 2016, people all over the planet will be celebrating it with acts of kindness and generosity. Will you be one of them?

World Smile Day

If you want to join in the big event here are some ideas to get you started:

Individually you can celebrate World Smile Day by:

  • Delivering a home cooked meal to an elderly neighbour
  • Holding open a door for someone
  • Calling a friend you haven't spoken to in ages

As a group of friends or work colleagues you could perhaps organise:

  • A pie eating contest
  • Choral performances
  • A hospital Smiley event

You may have many other ideas and there really is no limit to what you can do. Acts of kindness can be large or small but they all make a difference, so whatever you choose to do, you can be sure it will have a positive impact on someone, somewhere.

At Northenden House Orthodontics, we know the power of a great smile. It can bring about happiness and joy to others, and a confident smile can bring much happiness to ourselves too. If you would like to make any improvements to your smile, contact us for more information about our range of orthodontic treatments.  Brighten someone's day on World Smile Day with your smile.

Why More Adults Are Looking for Teeth Straightening Treatments 0

teeth straightening treatmentsIt was no surprise to read recently that a rising number of adults are seeking orthodontic treatment.  In a survey from the British Orthodontic Society (BOS), seventy-five percent of their members said they were experiencing an uplift in patients asking about and undergoing treatment to straighten teeth and improve the smile.

It is great to see that adult orthodontic treatments are on the rise and below we share our theories about this increase in popularity:

  • Increased awareness – One of the main reasons cited in the survey was the increased awareness of the orthodontic treatments available. We think this is partly due to the marketing efforts of orthodontic practices but is also thanks to the celebrity promotion of braces treatments. Well-known names such as Gwen Stefani, Tom Cruise and most recently Andrea Mclean have helped to make it ‘hip’ to have braces.
  • Selfie culture – the popularity of the ‘selfie’ means more people are aware about their smile on camera and want to look their best. If you are too embarrassed by your smile to pose for your own photograph, then it is a logical step to enquire about the treatments available to help straighten crooked and wonky teeth or close gaps between teeth to give you back the confidence to smile freely.
  • Affordability – over time and with the constant evolution of new treatments, teeth straightening has become more affordable. With many different types of braces to choose from and free consultations available to help determine the best course of treatment, there has never been a better time for adults to transform their smiles.

What results can you expect from orthodontic treatment?

Though the results always differ from individual to individual, those who have adult braces generally report greater self-esteem and an improved quality of life following completion of their treatment.  At Northenden House we have helped transform many smiles – just take a look at our cases page to get an idea of the results you can expect.
