Consultant & Specialist Orthodontists
Dr. Ovais Malik
BDS, MSc, MFDS RCS(Ed), MOrth RCS (Eng), MOrth RCS (Ed), FDS (Orth) RCS (Eng)
Ovais Malik is a Consultant in Orthodontics at the University of Manchester Dental Hospital and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. He qualified with honours as a dentist in 1996. After a variety of practice and hospital posts he joined the Orthodontic Postgraduate Training Programme at Guy’s Hospital, London. He was awarded a Master of Science Degree in Orthodontics, from University of London and awarded Membership in Orthodontics of both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh.
This was followed by entry onto the Specialist list in Orthodontics of the General Dental Council in 2003. Ovais was then appointed as a Senior Registrar in Orthodontics at University of Manchester Dental Hospital and Hope Hospital, Manchester. During this time he gained the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship in Orthodontics of the Royal College and accreditation as a Consultant Orthodontist. He is also an examiner for the Speciality Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth RCS) at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Dr. David Waring
BChD, M.D.Sc, MFDS RCS (Eng), MOrth RCS (Ed), FDS (Orth) RCS(Ed)
David qualified in 1995 from Leeds University Dental School. After various practice and hospital posts he joined the orthodontic specialist registrar training programme in Liverpool. He completed his specialist training in Orthodontics in 2003 gaining the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the M.Dent.Sci from the University of Liverpool.
Following entry to the Orthodontic specialist list David undertook a further 2 years of training as a senior registrar to gain the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship in Orthodontics of the Royal College and achieve consultant status. David is currently Clinical Lead for Orthodontics at Manchester Dental Hospital. David currently teaches Orthodontics at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester and he is also an examiner for the Speciality Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth RCS) at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Dr. Susi Caldwell
BChD, M.D.Sc, MFDS RCS (Eng), MOrth RCS (Ed), FDS (Orth) RCS(Ed)
Susi has been a consultant in Orthodontics at Wythenshawe Hospital for the past 10 years. She originally qualified as a dentist at Manchester University then as an Orthodontic specialist at Leeds Dental Institute in 1995. Following this she came back to Manchester as a Senior Registrar in Orthodontics at the Dental Hospital. She gained the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998 to gain Consultancy status.
She is currently Training Programme Director for Orthodontic trainees in Manchester and at the Council of the Manchester Medical Society, Odontology Section. Susi is very experienced in all areas of Orthodontics including treatment on children and adults.
Dr. Mariyah Nazir
BDS (Hons), MPhil, MFDS RCS (Eng), MOrth RCS (Ed), FDS (Orth) RCS (Eng)
Mariyah qualified with honours as a dentist in 2001 from the University Dental Hospital of Manchester. Following a variety of practice and hospital posts she undertook her specialist training in Manchester, gaining the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the MPhil from the University of Manchester.
Mariyah gained the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2009 to gain Consultancy status. Mariyah is an honorary teaching fellow at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester where she also works as a Consultant.
Dr. Victoria Elton
BChD (Hons), M. Dent. Sci, MFDS RCS (Eng), MOrth RCS (Ed), FDS (Orth) RCS (Eng)
Victoria qualified in Dentistry at the University of Leeds with Honours in 2001. She undertook her specialist Orthodontic training at the University of Liverpool, where she completed a Masters in Dental Science and attained the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Victoria qualified as a Consultant in Orthodontics in 2009 after gaining the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Victoria works at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester as a Consultant Orthodontist and as an Honorary Teaching Fellow, teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates. Victoria is on the General Dental Council's Specialist List in Orthodontics.
Dr. Sara Hosni
BDS DDSc (Orth) MFDS RCSEd MOrth RCSEd FDS (Orth) RCSEd
Sara is a Consultant in Orthodontics at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales. She qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Newcastle. Following a variety of hospital posts Sara undertook her orthodontic specialist training at the University of Liverpool. She completed the Membership in Orthodontics examination at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, qualifying as a specialist in Orthodontics.
In 2015, Sara gained her Doctorate of Dental Sciences degree at Liverpool University supported by her thesis “Cervical Vertebral Maturation as a Valid Predictor of Growth”. She presented her research at the International Orthodontic Congress and was awarded the first prize in the UTG Research Awards. The British Orthodontic Society awarded Sara the prestigious Geoffrey Fletcher prize in 2016 for her research collaborations in the United States and Italy.
Sara was appointed as a Senior Registrar in Orthodontics at the University of Liverpool Dental Hospital, Alder Hey Childrens Hospital and Glan Clwyd Hospital. During this time she gained the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship in Orthodontics of the Royal College and accreditation as a Consultant Orthodontist.
Sara is an examiner for the membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery exams at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. She also examines on the Orthodontic Therapy Diploma exam, at the Royal College of Surgeons.
As well as working as an orthodontic specialist in practice, Sara is also actively involved in teaching and training of post-graduate orthodontic specialist trainees at Liverpool Dental Hospital.
Dip Orth Ther RCSEd
Esther is our most experienced Orthodontic Therapist. Esther completed the intensive Orthodontic therapist training at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester. This led to sitting and successfully passing the Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Esther works closely with all the Consultants and undertakes the placement, adjustments and removal of appliances. She is well versed in the use of fixed appliances, lingual appliances and clear aligned systems.
Dip Orth Ther RCSEd
Emma has 15 years of experience in the dental field with over 9 years in orthodontics. She has progressed from an orthodontic nurse to an orthodontic therapist, successfully qualifying with a Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 2017, she also benefits from a post qualification in dental radiography. Emma currently works across three orthodontic practices in the Northwest and continues to enhance her skill set to include work with lingual appliances.
Dip Orth Ther RCSEd
Ellie came to Northenden House Orthodontics following nursing in a general dental practice. Since being at Northenden she has gone on to complete post qualifications in clinical photographs and then successfully completing NEBN Orthodontic nursing, this resulted in her taking on the role as senior nurse. Developing her role further Ellie has now successfully qualified with a Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 2018.
Our extensive training and experience
All the Consultants have undergone extensive training to specialist level in Orthodontics and hold part time Consultant posts in the hospital. They have all lectured widely on Orthodontic subjects and published in national and international journals.
During all the Orthodontists training and hospital positions, they have been exposed to the full range of orthodontic techniques on a complete spectrum of patients requiring orthodontic treatment. This experience was widened to include the use of lingual appliances, Invisalign and friction free brackets, through operating in practice and attending appropriate courses.
They have had extensive private practice experience in the UK treating adults and children.
Senior Orthodontic Nurse
Maya joined the practice in 2016 following a year long career break during which she cycled from England to South Africa. Maya originally trained in an orthodontic practice therefore has a wealth of knowledge and skills. Since being at Northenden House she has successfully qualified in dental radiography with Salford University and has recently been appointed senior orthodontic nurse to aid the smooth running of the practice.
Jamie is our longest standing member of our nursing team and has worked at Northenden House Orthodontics for over 15 years. Jamie is an active team member and greatly supports new members of staff imparting the knowledge of products and procedures she has gained over the years. She enjoys watching the positive change that orthodontics can have on an individual’s personality.
Patrice is an experienced dental nurse that joined the Northenden House team in 2016. Patrice is keen to pursue a career in Orthodontics and has increased her credentials by qualifying in dental radiography with Salford University. Patrice has an excellent chairside manor, focusing on putting our patient’s at ease.
Wendy has travelled the world dental nursing but we have been lucky enough for her to stop with us at Northenden House. Extensive knowledge of dentistry, oral surgery and orthodontics, Wendy is an excellent addition to our nursing team. She has post qualifications in radiography and sedation.
Amy started dental nursing in 2004 as a school leaver, since then she has developed her skills to working with specialists in the implant and oral surgery field. Amy came to Northenden House with valuable knowledge of the NHS referral management system and continues to implement this by managing our orthodontic NHS referrals. Amy started as a receptionist at the practice but after showing a keen interest in orthodontics has now become a key member of our orthodontic nursing team.
Olivia joined the practice in March 2019, she is currently studying for her National Certificate in Dental Nursing at Manchester Dental Hospital, she is enjoying learning all about the different types of orthodontic treatment and is keen to follow on her training with a post qualification in dental radiography. This will aid the Consultants at the practice in the treatment planning process.
Hayley is a very experienced dental nurse with post qualifications in dental radiography and oral health instruction. She came to us keen to learn more about orthodontics and orthognathic surgery. We plan to use Hayleys excellent chairside manner by supporting her through an extended duties course which will enable her to take clinical photographs and impressions of patients.
Lisa has worked in the practice for over 20 years. She finds it rewarding seeing the positive changes and effects that orthodontic treatment can have on patients’ lives – it’s never too late to create a perfect smile. Lisa manages the clinician’s diaries and reception team, often being the first point of contact for new referrals coming into the practice.
June has worked within the dental profession for many years starting out as a qualified Dental nurse before moving over from nursing to reception. June has spent the last 15 years dealing with orthodontic patients and is very happy to help people with arranging convenient appointments.
Sharon is our newest member of the reception team. Sharon joins us from a private referral practice and is very experienced to assist you with your appointments and enquiries. Sharon has over 25 year’s experience in the dental field.
Pat has been working at Northenden House Orthodontics since Easter 2008, she liaises with the clinicians in regards to correspondence to referring dentists and patients.
Mohammad studied Business and Marketing at University, he is the Practice Manager for Northenden House Orthodontics and 2 other practices. He oversees the delivery of the services provided and ensures compliance with governing bodies. He manages the policies and procedures for all the practices.
Gemma joined us in July 2013 after working with Dr Waring at a general dental practice. She qualified in 2007 and has since completed a post qualification in dental radiography, which she passed with honors. Following 4 years of orthodontic nursing at the practice, Gemma took on the role of Operations Manager on her return from maternity leave in 2017 and manages the day to day running of the practice.
