The Invisalign Brand Celebrates Treating Their 3 Millionth Patient
On the 3rd of March 2015, the Invisalign brand announced that 3 million patients have now started treatment using the Invisalign system, the innovative approach to straightening teeth.
Understandably, this is a huge milestone in orthodontic treatment and marks the increasing number of dental professionals that are Invisalign trained, as well as the number of patients looking to straighten their teeth and feel more confident about themselves. The network of Invisalign providers has now spread to dental practices in more than 80 countries, with people all over the world benefiting from straighter smiles through treatment from the Invisalign clear aligner system.
After reaching such an impressive milestone, Align Technology, worldwide market leader in clear aligner orthodontics and the brains behind the Invisalign brand, have decided to celebrate by donating $1 for every share of a photo showing a person’s smile on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #3millionsmiles until they achieve a donation of $1 million. This donation will be pledged to Operation Smile, helping to give more smiles to children throughout the world as well as inspiring others to pledge.
Given the popularity of Invisalign treatment in the UK, the milestone of 3 million patients worldwide does not come as a surprise. Huge numbers of individuals based throughout the UK have benefited massively from the results of Invisalign treatment, with many feeling that having straight teeth, can have a huge positive effect on their lives.
What is Invisalign treatment?
Invisalign is an increasingly popular treatment at our Manchester practice that uses clear aligners, similar to a mouth guard or retainer that straightens crooked teeth over time. Unlike traditional orthodontics, Invisalign aligners are completely transparent, wafer thin and manufactured from medical grade plastic that is comfortable in the mouth. Each set of aligners are designed to be worn for around two weeks, before being replaced by a new set, gradually moving your teeth to the desired position.
What are the main benefits of Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment is ideally suited to patients suffering from crooked teeth, gaps in their teeth, or even teeth that overlap:
- As Invisalign aligners are practically invisible, they are ideally suited to people that work in the public eye, or in many cases, people that are self-conscious about their smile, and do not want to draw more attention to themselves with traditional metal braces. Invisalign is completely discreet, and allows patients to smile freely without worry.
- Whereas the wires and metal fixtures of traditional braces can poke and irritate the mouth, leaving it sore, and regular tightening can leave the teeth feeling extra sensitive, the medical grade plastic used for Invisalign aligners is smooth and comfortable in the mouth.
- Whereas food can easily get caught in braces throughout the day, and can make cleaning your teeth difficult due to the permanent obstacles they provide, Invisalign aligners are removable to allow for easy cleaning and can be taken out at meal times.
- Traditional braces mean that you are restricted in what foods you can eat, as particularly chewy foods can potentially damage them, hampering the treatment and possibly causing further irritation in the mouth if loose metal fittings are poking or stabbing at the gums or insides of the mouth. As Invisalign aligners are removable, there are no real food restrictions. Providing the teeth are cleaned after meals, Invisalign aligners can simply be put back in the mouth.
