How Effective are Lingual Braces?

Lingual Braces | Manchester Orthodontics

Now, it’s very common that everyone wants straight teeth. And if you don’t, you're probably lying.

Correcting misaligned teeth or correcting bites can be tricky, especially because there are so many treatments now available. At Northenden, we offer treatments such as Invisalign, Ceramic braces, Lingual braces to Metal braces and Self-ligating braces.

There’s a lot of choices out there, so how do you know which ones right for you?

In this blog, we’re going to talk specifically about Lingual braces and whether they’re as effective as traditional braces.

First of all, what are they?

Well, Lingual braces are very different from other styles of braces. They are fitted to the palatal (inside) surface of each tooth, rather than the front, meaning they are invisible to other people. This option is usually favored by adults who need to have teeth straightened, but don’t want them to be seen.

So you might be asking, they look great but how do they actually work?

We’re glad you asked! Braces are only effective if they’re able to manipulate your teeth into a new position. Lingual braces can do this, they just do it differently. Like normal braces, they gently push and pull the teeth to get the right movement for your jawline. However, since they’re positioned with the brackets on the inside side of the tooth, you get the benefit of having braces but with them also being hidden.

Finally, you must be thinking that they seem like a viable option and seem to work similarly to traditional braces. But you’re wanting to know if they are really effective?

Here are some benefits:

  • They’re hidden
  • You can wear them continuously (unlike removable braces which you’re tempted to remove often)
  • They’re a fixed solution (unlike clear tray aligners which take longer for results)
