Will Invisalign affect my speech?

Invisalign Braces | Effects On Speech | Northenden House Orthodontics

Invisalign is now the most popular hidden brace treatment because they are so easy to use. They are virtually invisible to the human eye, so you don't have to worry about your braces showing when you smile. The Invisalign aligners are used to gradually and gently move your teeth into the desired position.

The Invisalign aligners are clear plastic which is why they are virtually invisible, they are also removable making it less hassle when it comes to eating and drinking. Our patients love Invisalign as they are comfortable to wear and they love how they do not have to sacrifice their diet for the treatment.

But the question is does it affect your speech? Well, initially when you first put the aligner in it might feel a bit different or strange and you might also experience a slight change in your speech. But after a few hours, you should be completely used to it and be able to speak as you did before. You may notice a slight lisp when you first have them on but naturally, that goes away. Your tongue will also have to get used to the aligners but again you shouldn’t notice any long-term speech problems.

It’s suggested that you wear your Invisalign aligners for as long as possible, typically 22 hours a day is preferred. As your aligners are in for such a long duration of time, it will feel more natural for you to have them in than it does without them so it shouldn't affect your speech.
