Invisalign is an Orthodontic system that aligns your teeth with a series of clear aligners. It is a custom made appliance that is generated from a prescription from your Orthodontist along with the submission of your intra oral ‘Itero’ scan and clinical records.

Once Invisalign receive your records a treatment plan is formulated along with a computer generated ‘ClinCheck’ which will provide us with a video of the treatment outcome at staged intervals.  At this stage the treatment plan can be amended and outcomes adjusted. The ‘Invisalign’ software can highlight to us where attachments, bite ramps or buttons maybe placed to aid with the movement of your teeth.  Attachments are made from composite and are placed on the front of your teeth to help achieve certain movements.

There are different types of Invisalign systems depending upon the severity of your case, this will also determine how many aligners you will need to wear and the length of treatment. The aligners are worn for 22 hours per day and only removed for eating, drinking and cleaning your teeth. Over the course of your treatment you will generally wear your aligner for 1-2 weeks each depending upon the movement the Orthodontic practitioner is trying to achieve. The ‘Invisalign’ system manufactures their aligners using a SmartTrack material that is clinically proven to improve control of tooth movement while gently moving your teeth. The aligners are trimmed close to the gum margin for added comfort which is of further benefit for the patient.

In regards to keeping the aligners and your teeth clean, it’s simple. Brush your teeth as you would do normally and after each snack and meal, then before you place the aligner back in your mouth use your toothbrush to clean the inside of the aligner ensuring all plaque has been removed, rinse under cool water and replace back in the mouth. Never use hot water to rinse your aligners, they are heat formed so it would cause them to deform.
